Discovering intersectionality and the neurodiversity movement

Intensity: 2 hours

Education about the neurodiversity paradigm, intersectionality, and the neurodiversity movement is not the same as education about neurodiversity. This course introduces and provides basic answers to four important questions:

  • Why is there an urgent need for a paradigm shift?
  • How does the mindset and language of the new paradigm differ from the language in the old paradigm?
  • Who is involved in the shift?
  • Who must learn from the neurodiversity movement?

This short introductory seminar has been developed to raise awareness of the neurodiversity paradigm and the neurodiversity civil rights movement, which emerged at the end of the 20th century, and which has gained significant visibility over the last ten years.

This seminar is intended to introduce you to a new way of conceptualising and thinking about human diversity, and to raise your level of awareness about human ways of being that lie beyond your own lived experience and beyond your own cultural background and internalised social expectations.

This seminar concludes with an overview of available in-depth professional education courses and workshops on these topics and related topics, including a dedicated in-depth course on Autistic culture, which is specifically designed to help you better understand Autistic people and their needs, and to assist you in communicating and collaborating with Autistic colleagues, patients, and family members.
